Beginning with the 2026/27 season, US Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer will use an August 1–July 31 age-group formation cycle. This change better aligns many players with their school-grade peers and supports a more consistent development and competition experience.

U.S. Soccer allows each member organization to select the registration cycle used in the leagues and competitions it sanctions. US Youth Soccer, US Club Soccer, and EDP have confirmed the August 1–July 31 cycle for 2026/27.
How players will be placed

- Age-group eligibility based on the August 1–July 31 window
- Grade alignment, especially for high-school players
- Player level and individual development needs
Why is the system changing?

The goal is to reduce the number of “trapped players,” improve alignment with the school year, and create stronger training and competition environments. No single cutoff perfectly matches every school system, but the August 1 date provides a practical national standard for participating organizations.
What this means for Uruguayan Soccer Club families

Team rosters will be reviewed for the new season. Some players may move into a different age group, while others will remain together. Coaches will consider eligibility, school grade, ability level, team balance, and the development pathway that best supports each player.
